PHOTOS: Firefighters responded to an Alert 1 at the municipal airport Thursday morning, but there was really nothing to worry about. “A plane was running a little rough and decided to come back to the airport,” said Danbury Municipal Airport Assistant Airport Administrator Mike Safranek. “It’s like when a car’s engine starts sputtering a bit, you pull over and call AAA — but with a plane, you can’t pull over and call AAA,” Safranek said. “The pilot decided to not take any chances and return to the airport.” Safranek said an Alert 1 is when a pilot deems there to be a minor incident, such as an engine problem or lost radio. “For the most part, it’s a minor incident with the aircraft itself, or the pilot himself,” he said. “Standard protocol is for Engine 26 to respond, and a majority of the time Car 30 responds — and, if available, a truck and another vehicle,” Safranek said. “It’s a precautionary thing.”
