Firefighters gathered at department headquarters Saturday to say goodbye and good luck to Daniel Mansdorf. The 28-year-old is leaving the Danbury Fire Department to achieve his childhood dream of becoming a member of the Fire Department of New York.
“Dan was a firefighter’s firefighter — always willing to work hard and get the job done,” fire department spokesperson James Gagliardo said. Prior to becoming a paid Danbury firefighter in August 2013, Mansdorf served three years as a firefighter for the city of Charleston, N.C. He has also been an active volunteer firefighter with the Hastings on Hudson Fire Department in Westchester, N.Y.
Mansdorf will embark on the next chapter of his firefighting career by attending probationary firefighter school on May 13.
