PHOTOS: A house in the Hawleyville section of town was destroyed in an early morning fire Tuesday. The single-family house at 5 Farrell Road was already heavily involved when a Newtown police officer arrived on scene shortly after 911 calls came in around 1 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found the house fully engulfed by flames. The fire brought a response from all five Newtown fire companies and Newtown EMS. Danbury Ambulance was also called. No word yet on whether anyone was injured. According to Newtown property records, the one-story house has an assessed value of $176,390.
