Firefighters from Norwalk and Westport battled an intense car fire on southbound I-95 Wednesday morning. The fire, reported at 5:40 a.m., shut down the right and center lanes between Exit 17 in Westport and Exit 16 in Norwalk. When firefighters arrived the vehicle was fully involved. It took firefighters about five minutes to knock down the fire. State Police at Troop G in Bridgeport said no one was inside the vehicle and no injuries were reported. For several minutes the vehicle was fully engulfed by flames. Southbound traffic traveled past the inferno in the far left lane. By 6:10 a.m. all lanes were open and the scene was cleared.
