Three people were rescued from a capsized vessel off the coast of Bridgeport late Saturday afternoon.
Around 5:15 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to Seaside Park for a report of a boat in distress. Within minutes, police were also en route and mutual aid had been called for assistance, as well as notification to the U.S. Coast Guard Long Island Sector.
The fire boat was underway by around 5:20 p.m. and Bridgeport police also launched its marine boat around that time.
Dispatchers fielded third-party calls about the incident, with callers saying there was someone on the middle ground at the lighthouse, without further details. Bridgeport police spokesman Terron Jones said the three were at first rescued by a good Samaritan before they were transferred over to the Bridgeport fire boat.
