Private well testing was one of the main concerns of the 35 residents who attended a meeting Wednesday night at Town Hall to hear updates from state officials on the two separate releases of potentially hazardous firefighting foam into the Farmington River in the past few months.
The June 8 spill of nearly 50,000 gallons of firefighting foam containing per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances, or PFAS, into the river was the main focus of concern at the meeting, not the Oct. 2 incident at Bradley International Airport when a World War II-era B-17 aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff and burst into flames, which prompted firefighters to use PFAS to fight the blaze.
