A kitchen fire at a multi-unit complex in town Thursday afternoon was contained to a small area thanks to a neighbor’s quick action to call a possible fire, officials said.
Firefighters responded for a call of smoke coming from a window of a three-story multi-unit complex at 1655 Post Road East just after 1 p.m., according to Assistant Fire Chief Brett Kirby.
The response called for four engines, one ladder truck, the shift commander and automatic mutual aid from Fairfield.
The first unit on scene said there was smoke coming from a second-floor window. Firefighters and police evacuated the neighboring units and learned that the affected unit was possibly occupied.
Firefighters searched the building and found a dog on the third floor, who was safely rescued.
A small fire was found in the kitchen of the unit.
