Firefighters responded to "multiple calls" for help Sunday as a result of stormy weather, including reports of a house fire and two kayakers needing assistance. Deputy Chief Tom Gloersen said heavy rain, strong winds and lightning moved through Stamford around 5 p.m.
The flood of calls began at 4:54 p.m. when the fire department received reports of two kayakers needing help in the area of Wallacks Point. According to Gloersen, a report also came in around that time of a boat with a broken anchor line drifting toward rocks in the area.
The department also received a report of people stranded on rocks in the same general area, Gloersen said. The department's marine unit, along with the US Coast Guard and Stamford police Marine Unit, quickly responded to the area and a kayaker was safely recovered, Gloersen said.
