James “Jamie” Vincent has been sworn in as fire marshal, following the untimely death of his close friend and colleague Tim Smith, according to the Orange Volunteer Fire Department. Smith died in an automobile accident Jan. 19 in Woodbridge. Prior to his taking the top spot, Vincent served as deputy fire marshal under Smith and delivered a poignant eulogy at Smith’s funeral. Vincent and Orange Volunteer Fire Department officers were sworn in at their annual dinner by First Selectman James Zeoli, according to the fire department’s release. The department’s annual dinner was attended by about 180 firefighters, families and representatives of other departments, as they kicked off a year-long celebration of the department’s 95th anniversary.
