As residents grapple with the coronavirus pandemic, Cromwell Fire Department personnel are using specialized clothing and equipment in the event they respond to infectious disease-related emergencies.
In an effort to reassure residents, Julius C. Neto, the executive director for the fire district, compiled detailed information about what firefighters and EMTs will be wearing when faced with an infectious disease.
Neto said he prepared the information “to provide a sense of calm” for residents if they “observe our crews operating in the field.” Department personnel have adopted a heightened level of “Bodily Substance Isolation” in an effort to “protect our first responders and you the public as well as attempting to limit the further spread of infection,” Neto said.
