A firefighter, a police officer and two school workers have tested positive for COVID-19, as the city waits for results on more public safety personnel. The delay in getting testing results continues to be an issue and was one of the topics discussed at Mayor Justin Elicker’s virtual press conference Monday, a daily occurrence to keep the city informed of the impact of the coronavirus in New Haven. Police Chief Otoniel Reyes said they been in contact with the officer who has tested positive and with people who have been in contact with that officer, many of whom are now self-quarantining at home “to nip it in the bud.” Fire Chief John Alston Jr. said 13 firefighters are not at work, either waiting for results or finishing 14-days in isolation. “It is a fluid situation,” Alston said. He said personnel are being monitored every day, twice a day.
