Local firefighters are urging families to be prepared in case of a fire and to practice during their community fire drill, “Operation E.D.I.T.H.” on Oct. 8. The community fire drill, Operation E.D.I.T.H., which stands for “Exit Drill In The Home” will be held at 7 p.m. in participating households.
Tony Orsini, health and safety officer with the Terryville Fire Department, said that, due to COVID-19, two other fire prevention week events – the Adam's Hometown Market Fire Prevention Saturday Program and the Terryville Fire Department's preschool through grade 5 fire safety program had to be canceled. However, the fire department is still urging residents to participate in “Operation E.D.I.T.H.”
“On Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. our community fire drill will begin,” he said. “We strongly urge you and your family to actually practice an exit drill in the home at this time. This is also an excellent opportunity for you to test your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms.”
