The city has hired the retired chief of operations of the fire department in Yonkers, NY. as interim fire chief in Danbury. Chief Kevin Ford will begin a six-month term with the Danbury Fire Department on Tuesday. At the Yonkers FD, Ford served for 26 years and rose through the ranks of that department, eventually retiring as chief of operations in 2020. He carries a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Iona College, and is certified in all hazard emergency response. Danbury is in the process of hiring a fire chief after the departure of Chief T. J. Wiedl in July 2020 and Acting Chief Mark Omasta in January 2021. Due to the COVID pandemic, the selection and hiring process for this position has been delayed, according to a news release from the mayor's office.
