Fire Chief Peter Towey is leaving the Torrington Fire Department for a job as assistant fire chief in New Britain.
Towey, whose move is effective Aug. 15, said he wasn’t leaving for any other reason than for his career. “It’s not because I’m unhappy, in any way,” he said. “The move is an opportunity for a long-term career and I needed to seize on it.
“The last three years have been awesome, working here in Torrington,” Towey said. “It’s so great how the Fire Department has stepped up, especially during the last year, and they continue to step up with professional dedication and compassion. And the community has been amazing; the trust they’ve put in me has been humbling.”
Towey, a career firefighter, has been in Torrington for three years. He gave his resignation to the Board of Public Safety Monday night.
