Fire Chief Joseph Czentnar and Deputy Fire Chief Sam Wilson were sworn in this week during a ceremony attended by their families, fire personnel and town leaders.
The Wallingford Fire Department has two deputy chiefs. Czentnar, who was the deputy chief for administration and operations, was promoted to chief two weeks ago — the 12th chief to serve the modern day fire department.
He had been serving as acting fire chief for three months, after the retirement of former chief Richard Heidgerd in April.
His former position is slated to be posted for employment applications by the town Human Resources department.
Wilson began serving as the deputy chief for EMS and training more than a year and a half ago.
The pandemic delayed his swearing-in ceremony due to state restrictions on gatherings and the time taken up by fire department’s role in emergency response to COVID-19.
