Firefighters will play a benefit softball game with the local women’s fastpitch softball team on Sunday in support of a New Haven firefighter killed in the line of duty earlier this year. The game between Stratford firefighters and the Stratford Brakettes will be at Deluca Field at 5 p.m. on June 27. Tickets are $10 and can be bought at eventbrite.com by searching “Stratford Pros vs Stratford Firefighter Joes.” Assistant Fire Chief Robert Daniel said the game is in support of the late Ricardo Torres, Jr. He said all proceeds will be donated to the Torres family. Torres died on May 12 from injuries he suffered battling a Valley Street fire in New Haven. New Haven firefighters, dispatched around 12:45 a.m. that day, reported heavy fire and flames coming from the structure. Crews rescued two residents trapped inside the home.
