Firefighters knocked down a fire at a vacant home in Bridgeport’s East Side early Saturday. Scott Appleby, Bridgeport’s emergency management director, said the Bridgeport Fire Department received reports of a second-floor fire at a house in the 200 block of Brooks Street around 4:30 a.m. Saturday. First-arriving firefighters found “heavy flames” that threatened to spread to nearby homes, Appleby said. However, multiple fire companies were able to work together to contain the fire to the unoccupied home and extinguish it without incident, according to Appleby. Appleby said the cause of the fire has yet to be determined and is still under investigation.
