A town home was deemed temporarily uninhabitable after smoke and heat damaged it from an early-morning blaze on Friday, according to fire officials.
Monroe, Stevenson and Stepney fire companies were dispatched to an Old Colony Road home in the Great Oak Farm complex around 5:30 a.m. for a report of a fire in the laundry room that was spreading throughout the home.
Officials said the first arriving crews kept the flames in check with water extinguishers as engine crews stretched hose lines to knock down the blaze and check for extension.
Fire damage in the 3,000-square-foot home was contained to the laundry room, the kitchen and a hallway, officials said. The rest of the home saw significant smoke and heat damage.
There were no injuries reported by any occupants or firefighters, but a hamster did die in the fire, officials said.
