Seven residents were displaced Thursday after a kitchen fire in Norwich, fire officials said. City firefighters dispatched at 2:04 p.m. to 38 Thirteenth St. where they encountered smoke coming from the residence’s windows and eaves, prompting a second alarm to be toned and the Mohegan FAST team to be called in. Crews stretching a hose line to the rear of the buildings discovered a kitchen fire extending from a stove area to cabinets and the ceiling, according to a press release from the Norwich Fire Department. The blaze was extinguished after about 40 minutes and the kitchen sustained moderate fire damage with light smoke damage throughout the space, officials said. There were no injuries and a lone resident home at the time of the fire was able to evacuate on her own.
