A fire contained to the “oven area” at The Village Table in the Springdale neighborhood of Stamford was extinguished within minutes of being reported Thursday evening, Stamford Fire Department deputy chief Matt Palmer told the Stamford Advocate. Employees of the business next door YB World Taekwondo C.J. Yorfino and Sam Kim spotted the fire from the window of the business, which was closed at the time of the fire. “The kitchen was lighting up like a campfire,” Kim said. Smoke billowed from the oven exhaust at the rear of the building, Palmer said. The plume was visible from Hope Street, which runs perpendicular to the strip mall. Stamford fire personnel received an alert about a smoke detector being activated around 7:15 p.m. The alert was shortly followed up with a caller reporting a kitchen fire, according to Capt. Philip Hayes.
