A firefighter was injured Monday night while battling a three-alarm blaze at a downtown Stamford high-rise apartment building, according to the Stamford Fire Department. No other injuries were reported as numerous occupants were safely evacuated, and the fire was quickly contained. At 7:59 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a report of a fire alarm at a 12-story apartment building at 60 Strawberry Hill Ave. Several residents in the building called 911 reporting black smoke on the eighth floor, SFD Deputy Chief Matt Palmer said in a news release. Due to the location of the fire and the difficulties associated with firefighting operations in a tall building, a second alarm was sounded. According to Palmer, firefighters quickly ascended to the eighth floor, and contained the fire to the apartment of origin.
