Nine residents of a building in the 900 block of Hancock Avenue in Bridgeport were displaced by a two-alarm fire Sunday morning, according to fire officials.
No injuries were reported in the 11:15 a.m. fire, but at one point all firefighters battling the blaze were told to temporarily evacuate the structure for safety reasons.
Upon arrival, the first squad of firefighters spotted "heavy fire" on the building's third floor, which prompted the call for the second alarm.
A while later, the fire department was able to get the fire under control and extinguished.
The Red Cross is assisting the nine displaced occupants, and the Bridgeport Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
