It was five months ago when a devastating fire destroyed the iconic Willey Farms facility in southern New Castle County but like the flowers they are cultivating from the dirt, Willey Farms is reopening from the ashes on Friday, April 12, 2019.
Gretchen Willey-Gill said it's been a roller coaster to get the gardens and greenhouses ready to open.
"It's been up and down. It's been a big learning experience--I have to say it's been mostly wonderful," added Willey-Gill and noted that what's made it wonderful is the community support they've received. "Honestly, I have to say without all the people who are encouraging us and behind us and want good things, it would have been a lot harder not knowing that was there," she said. "I definitely don't feel like I've been slogging by myself. I have everybody here at Willey Farms."
The thought of that support brings her to tears.
