Collision with fire truck kills Wilmington man

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal Saturday night accident in Middletown. At approximately 7:57 p.m. on Saturday April 13, 2019, a marked firetruck, with emergency lights on, was responding to a collision in the area of Route 301 and Bunker Hill Road and was stopped when another vehicle struck it from behind. The operator of the apparatus was properly restrained and refused treatment at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, a 57-year-old Wilmington man, that collided with the truck was properly restrained but was pronounced dead at the scene. Northbound 301, north of Bunker Hill Road, was closed for roughly two and a half hours while the investigation was started and the scene was cleared. The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is heading up the continuing investigation.
