A storm roared through New Castle and northeastern Kent counties Thursday, prompting a flash flood warning from the National Weather Service. Rainfall amounts of up to one inch were said to be possible, according to NWS. Effects of the storm could already be seen near New Castle on East Roosevelt Avenue in Penn Acres by about 8:10 p.m. The storm had ripped a hole in the front of one home's facade, knocking out two of its four columns and taking off pieces of siding and shingles. Tree limbs were scattered on the front lawn. Across the street from the home, a tree had fallen on the street, as neighbors left their homes to survey the damage. In Middletown, at the intersection of Boyds Corner Road and Cedar Lane a tractor-trailer overturned, DelDOT reports. The tractor-trailer was still blocking part of the intersection after storms passed the area around 8:30 p.m.
