A vicious storm cell blew through central New Castle County shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, bringing down trees and power lines.
No injuries were reported as neighbors along Duncan Road near Milltown Road surveyed the damage left behind.
Cathy O'Leary lost a 60-foot backyard oak tree that fortunately fell away from her home.
"My puppy had run out of the dog door, and I ran to get him because he shouldn't be out. As soon as he came back in, I heard a crack, and I just saw the top of that tree going and grabbed the two [children] and ran towards the garage because I thought it was coming towards the house."
A block further down on Duncan Road a somewhat smaller tree had toppled on a front lawn damaging that home's gutters.
Mill Creek firefighters closed off Milltown Road due to some tree limbs that brought down power lines.
The same storm cell also blew out part of a fence and damaged a maintenance garage at Delaware State Police Troop 6 in Prices Corner.
