The occupant of a house in the 900 block of Linden Street in Wilmington escaped a fire late Wednesday afternoon thanks to neighbors. Wilmington fire officials say neighbors alerted the person inside as there were no working smoke detectors in the house. The fire was reported around 5:45 p.m. on October 2, 2019 and arriving firefighters found heavy fire on the porch in the rear of the structure. The blaze was declared under control in about an hour. The Red Cross was called in to assist a total of three adults. There were no injuries.
