If firefighters are called into action in Sussex County, they will now have stronger cell service to answer that call. The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is replacing it's former cell tower with a new 130 feet tall tower. Over the past several weeks, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Department Station 2 on Banks Rd. has been under construction. It was a collaborated effort between the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and commercial entities to remove the existing tower and replace it with an up to date and more commercialized tower. The new tower will be a part of the AT&T First Net Emergency Responder Enhancement Initiative. Patrick Miller is the president and public information officer of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company. Miller says the new tower will make it easier for first emergency responders to talk to each other.
