A 65-year old Wilmington man suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries in a crash on Route 1 near Delaware City on Friday morning, October 4, 2019.
Delaware State Police say, for an unknown reason, the driver's car drifted out of the northbound right lane and smashed into the back of a box truck that was disabled on the shoulder. Firefighters from Delaware City, Port Penn and Odessa along with New Castle County paramedics responded to the scene.
It took crews about fifteen minutes to extricate the victim before he was flown to Christiana Hospital on a Delaware State Police helicopter.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) responded to the scene to assist in handling some hazardous materials that were on board the truck.
