Fire at tent encampment in Stanton where four died

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office was called out to investigate a fire at the same homeless encampment where four people were found dead on Tuesday. Mill Creek firefighters were called out to the woods off the intersection of Route 7 and Telegraph Road just before 10 Wednesday night, February 19, 2020 for a reported brush fire. The fire itself was contained to a small area but was centered at the spot where the four were found deceased inside a tent. The victims were identified as 62-year-old Joseph Messick and 36-year-old Sydney Messick, who were uncle and nephew, respectively, along with 36-year-old Avelina Demato and 33-year-old Timothy Cunningham. Delaware State Police and EMS were called to the original scene around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2020.
