A building is heavily damaged after a massive fire in Elsmere. Firefighters from several New Castle County fire companies were called to the residential-commercial structure around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2020 in the unit block of North Park Drive in Elsmere, just off of B and O Lane. Thick black smoke from the fire was visible for several miles. State Fire Marshals investigators found the fire originated in the first-floor shop area of an occupied mechanics shop and was sparked by workers using cutting tools to remove parts from a vehicle. No one was hurt in the fire, which caused $100,000 in damage, according to investigators.
