A pedestrian died after getting hit by a pick-up truck near New Castle around 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. Delaware State Police say the 20-year old Wilmington man was hit in the westbound lanes of Route 273 west of the Churchmans Road intersection. The impact caved in the hood of the pick-up truck which did stop at the scene. The victim was treated by New Castle County paramedics and then taken to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating. Troopers say the pedestrian was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing and was attempting to cross the roadway away from a crosswalk when he was hit. It's the 5th fatality on Delaware roads already this year including the second pedestrian.
