Fire damaged two townhouses in the Whispering Pines neighborhood off Marrows Road on Saturday afternoon.
The fire broke out just before 1 p.m. in the unit block of Gilbert Court, according to Chief Drew Bowerson, of Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company.
Responding to a report of a washer and dryer on fire, firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the two-story house and a fire in the basement.
The fire spread to the rest of the house and the attic, causing significant damage. It also spread to an adjoining townhouse, which sustained minor damage.
Approximately 35 firefighters from Aetna and neighboring fire companies battled the blaze as snow fell. Five adults, four children and two dogs were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
No one was injured.
