Numerous fire, police, paramedic and maritime agencies are searching for several swimmers who went missing in Murderkill River Tuesday afternoon, police said.
First responders were called to South Bowers Road just before 3 p.m. after receiving reports that swimmers needed rescuing.
Initial radio scanner traffic said one person was rescued and two others were missing, though Delaware State Police have not confirmed. The agency said only that swimmers were missing after "multiple individuals" went in the river.
According to initial reports, dive teams were requested from Sussex and New Castle counties in Delaware and Wicomico County in Maryland. Information about the swimmers has not been released.
