Teen Charged With Setting Fire to Storage Structure at Bridgeville School

A 14-year-old boy is accused of intentionally starting a fire that caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage to a maintenance and storage structure on the grounds of Phillis Wheatley Elementary School in Bridgeville. The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office said it happened shortly after 7 p.m.. April 30 at the school, located in the 40 block of Church Street. State fire investigators were called to the scene and determined the fire was intentionally started. Fire damage is estimated at $80,000. There were no reported injuries. On Wednesday, May 13, deputy state fire marshal's arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the incident. He was charged with second-degree arson, third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespassing and criminal mischief and released to a parent pending a Family Court bond hearing. The investigation is still considered active and ongoing at this time.
