Dozens Of Animals Believed To Have Perished In Maryland House Fire; Newark Firefighters Assist

Just before 9:00 on Saturday evening firefighters from Elkton, Maryland, Chester County, Pennsylvania and Newark, Delaware responded to the 40 block of Country Side Loop in Elkton, Cecil County, for reports of a house fire. While en route to the home crews learned that several animals were trapped inside the home. First arriving crews reported a column of smoke as they neared the home. Upon arrival crews reported fire showing. Approximately sixty firefighters worked for about an hour to bring the one alarm fire under control. At least one person was evaluated and is believed to have been transported by Maryland State Police Aviation. Investigators say that the damage to the home is estimated at $356,000. The incident remains under investigation according to authorities.
