Riding to a house fire in late December, firefighter paramedic Jason Fawcett was in disbelief.
The Tequesta Fire Rescue truck’s monitoring equipment indicated there was a serious blaze in the 200 block of Country Club Drive, he said.
“This isn’t real,” Fawcett recalled thinking. “It’s never like this.”
Once there, Fawcett and fellow firefighter paramedic, Joshua Kitzi, braved a crumbling ceiling and poor visibility to rescue an elderly woman.
For their efforts, the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce awarded Fawcett and Kitzi the Valor Award at its second annual Valor and Community Service Awards ceremony for first responders Wednesday morning. The event was held at Palm Beach State College’s Eissey Campus Theatre in Palm Beach Gardens.
