Two months after being named Escambia County's medical director in 2018, Dr. Rayme Edler suspended a program that trained Emergency Medical Technicians to start patient IVs after discovering her name was being used on the training certificates without her knowledge. In emails obtained by the News Journal through a public records request, Edler raised questions about the program, which eventually led to Escambia County EMS Chief Steve White resigning on June 30, 2018, and the launch of an internal investigation that was handed over to the Florida Department of Health in March. Since the county has handed over the investigation to the state, three more officials have resigned. Escambia County Fire Rescue and EMS Chief Rusty Nail resigned on April 3.
