Fire Chief Derryl O’Neal has been suspended without pay for two weeks after a finding by the state Commission on Ethics that he had violated state ethics rules.
The ethics commission fined O’Neal $2,000 for the violation and required him to pay the city $2,320, the value of storing his Jet Ski on a city lift between 2015 and 2017.
O’Neal had unsuccessfully argued before the ethics commission that a former city manager had given him permission to store his Jet Ski on the city lift in exchange for it being used for supervising water rescue training.
City Manager Jonathan Evans imposed the suspension without pay, which began Monday, and is requiring O’Neal to undergo additional ethics training.
