2 hospitalized in crashes involving 5 vehicles on I-75 in Marion County

Two people were seriously injured in two vehicle crashes that happened minutes apart Thursday night on Interstate 75 in northern Marion County. Authorities said early Friday that the first crash involved a 2008 Toyota Scion TC, driven by Malik Campbell, 21, of Gainesville, with passenger Summer Nieves, 19, of Winter Garden; a Peterbilt semi driven by Lawrence Love, 63, of Indiana; and a 2000 Chevy Impala driven by Ray Latson, 46, of Gainesville, with passenger Jessica Latson, 29, his daughter, also of Gainesville. The second crash involved a Freightliner semi, driven by Tandy Stem, 58, of Jacksonville, and a 2013 VW driven by Ervin Perez, 45, of Orlando. The crashes occurred at Mile Marker 366, roughly two miles south of the County Road 318 exit.
