One person was taken to the hospital early Thursday following a house fire on Mar Walt Drive. According to the Fort Walton Beach Fire Department, crews were called out about 4:30 a.m. to a report of a fire with possible entrapment. Okaloosa County sheriff’s deputies were speaking with a woman trapped in a room at the back of the home who was trying to remove boards covering the window. As firefighters removed the boards, the fire made its way into the room and vented out of that window. Firefighters sprayed water to the ceiling to cool the air, entered the room and found the woman under debris at the window, according to fire officials. The woman was removed from the home. She was conscious and alert en route to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, firefighters said. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate.
