Video: Five members of a Cantonment family are displaced after their home was destroyed.
Wednesday morning flames poured out of the home on Booker Street, as firefighters battled the blaze.
“My daddy worked on this house for 43 years and in a matter of seconds, it was gone,” said Alexsonda Evans.
Inside the home, decades full of memories turned into ashes and burnt debris.
It’s painful for Evans to see the home she grew up in destroyed, but she’s thankful the fire didn’t turn deadly.
“We’re grateful that no one was hurt, but this is home. You can’t replace memories, but we can make new memories,” said Evans.
She said her niece and nephew, 3-year-old Camille Hale and 4-year-old Ashton Hale, heard the smoke alarm.
