Delray Beach Fire Rescue interim chief Keith Tomey has been appointed to lead the department full time, a department spokeswoman said Wednesday.
Tomey was named the fire chief Tuesday, removing the interim tag from his job title. He had served in an interim role since the resignation of former chief Neal de Jesus on March 10.
Tomey previously led the department as acting chief when de Jesus was appointed to two separate terms as interim city manager.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to be appointed to lead this great department,” Tomey said in a prepared statement. “I’m very proud of the well-trained, hard-working people at DBFR who serve the city of Delray Beach with excellence in every situation. Together, we have accomplished so much in the past few years.”
