A plane helping battle wildfires in Australia crashed in New South Wales state Thursday, killing three American firefighters, officials said.
One of the firefighters was from Navarre, Florida.
The C-130 Hercules firefighting aircraft crashed in the Snowy Monaro area.
The aircraft belonged to Coulson Aviation, a private American company contracted by the Rural Fire Service, according to officials.
The Rural Fire Service lost contact with the air tanker around 1:30 p.m.
"Initial reports are that there was a large fireball associated with the impact of the plane as it hit the ground," Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said at a news conference. "Unfortunately, all we've been able to do is locate the wreckage and the crash site. We have not been able to locate any survivors."
