One man is dead following a Tuesday-night fire in the 1700 block of Stafford Road, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
Firefighters were called shortly before 7 p.m. to the Lake Forest community in North Jacksonville to find heavy smoke coming from a home, fire officials said.
An initial search didn’t find anyone inside, but a second attempt uncovered an injured man, according to the police report. Taken to UF Health, he was declared dead.
The state fire marshal was called to the scene as the Sheriff’s Office also investigates the case. No cause has been determined.
