The St. Lucie County Fire District welcomed a new piece of equipment on Thursday.
The station put Engine 1 into service with a traditional "push-in" ceremony in Fort Pierce.
The ceremony pays homage to firefighters in the 1800s who used horse-drawn equipment to get to fire scenes, but had to push it back into the garage when done. "It's a tradition that we hope carries on for many years when we get new fire apparatus," said Captain Stefani.
Chaplain Tommy Neiman, a retired lieutenant, presided over the ceremony.
