A prescribed burn inside the Babcock-Webb Wildlife Area in Charlotte County is creating smoke across parts of Southwest Florida. The 720-acre controlled fire is managed by Florida Forestry Service. Fire is naturally occurring and a way of clearing dead brush to promote new growth in forests. By creating a control burned, Forestry Service is able to keep the fire under control and manage it. Winds blew the smoke over parts of southern Charlotte and Lee counties Tuesday creating a haze.
