Two dogs are dead and another is seriously hurt after lightning hit a home in Loxahatchee during Thursday afternoon’s storms. A home on the 12000 block of 75th Lane North was hit by lightning at about 4 p.m.
When Palm Beach County Fire Rescue firefighters responded, they found a home and a shed showing smoke. There were no cars in the driveway and no one was found in the residence.
Firefighters saved seven dogs, but Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control confirms two dogs were killed in the fire, and another is in critical condition. The fire was put out in less than two hours. Diana Makarenko and her family were looking out the window as the storm was at its worst and that’s when she says she saw the giant lightning strike across the street. "The flash was bright red,” Makarenko said.
