Pooler Fire-Rescue has been awarded a grant that will allow them to hire fifteen new firefighters. The Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA will award the City of Pooler $1,420,107.00 to help defray the cost of adding the firefighters. This will grow the staff by more than 30%. The funds will be paid over a three-year period. The SAFER Grant was created to provide funding directly to fire departments to help them increase the number of trained, “front line” cross trained firefighters available in their communities.
