Tropical Storm Michael gusts whip flames in south Macon fire at truck shop

As Tropical Storm Michael was moving through Macon, firefighters were battling its strong winds. At about 1:15 a.m. Thursday, Macon-Bibb County firefighters were called to Dub’s Big Rig Rehab at 2224 Barnes Road off Ga. 247. One tractor from an 18-wheeler was on fire at the shop on the south side of Bibb County. Fire investigator Lt. Ben Gleaton said strong winds gusting to near 40 mph helped spread the flames to four other tractors. Breaking News Four of them were destroyed and another was damaged, Gleaton said. The cause of the blaze is under investigation. Firefighters were on scene for more than two hours getting the fire put out.
